Manohari Devi Kanoi Girls’ College (MDKGC), one of the premier institutions of higher education of the State, established on July 5, 1963, celebrated its 59th foundation day on Monday.

DIBRUGARH: Manohari Devi Kanoi Girls' College (MDKGC), one of the premier institutions of higher education of the State, established on July 5, 1963, celebrated its 59th foundation day on Monday. The function was inaugurated by Dr. Nibedita Phukan, Principal, MDKG College, and moderated by Dr. Anita Sharma, Assistant Professor of the college. All present in the programme recollected the bygone days and wonderful experience associated with the college and became nostalgic and emotional.

On Monday, the day began with hoisting of college flag and lighting of lamp by the Principal, in presence of a number of GB members, staff and students. On this occasion, a museum was inaugurated by the GB president, Dr. Paresh Chandra Baruah. The museum established at the initiative of the Principal aims at collecting, preserving and highlighting the archaic items associated with the inception and development of the college. Moreover, an webinar on 'Challenges posed by COVID pandemic: Role and responsibility of Higher Education Institutions' was organized by the 59th foundation day organizing committee in which Professor (Dr) Rajiv Handique, Dean, Faculty of Arts, GU, Dr. Akhil Ranjan Dutta, Professor and Head of the Department of Political Science, GU, Dr. Aradhana Kataky, former Head of the Department of English, MDKG College, and also the president of PGPR, an NGO for people's right, acted as resource persons.

On Sunday, an interactive session was held among the retired principals, teachers and administrative staff of the college on a digital platform in which a good number of members of the college family, including Dr. Chandi Seth, Dr. Dilip Kumar Bhuyan,Dr. Gayatry Devi Goswami, Dr. Sandhya Devi, along with other eminent personalities took part actively.
