Martyred Assam Rifles jawan Pranay Kalita cremated with full state honours

Guwahati: Pranay Kalita, the Assam Rifles jawan who was martyred in an ambush by militants in Manipur's Chandel district was interred today at his residence in Barpeta's Pathsala earlier today.

Grief shook Ghatbar Saderi village under Bajali subdivision where the last rites of the deceased Assal Rifles jawan were carried out with full state honours.

Kalita's near and dear ones, including his wife and two children, were seen sobbing inconsolably at his last rites ceremony. They were joined by relatives and the cries of the family, shaken by the soldier's sudden and shocking end, rose to the skies. Munin Sarma, the Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta, and Rabin Kumar Singh, the Superintendent of Police, visited Pranay Kalita's home where they consoled the grieving kin of the deceased soldier.

The mortal remains of the martyred Assam Rifles jawan were flown to Assam earlier in the day. The body reached Kalita's native village around 3 in the afternoon, where despite fears of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, people came out of their houses to steal a peek and pay their final respects to the martyred Assam jawan.

As per reports, 3 Assam Rifles personnel were killed and five others injured in an ambush in Manipur's Chandel district near the Indo-Myanmar border on Wednesday, July 27.

A patrol party of Assam Rifles was ambushed by suspected militants by triggering an IED explosion followed by firing at Khongtal area under Chakpikarong police station around 6.30 pm on Wednesday.

The three deceased jawans have been identified as Havildar Pranay Kalita, Rifleman Methna Konyak, and Rifleman Ratan Sapam.

Honouring the jawans earlier in the day, a wreath-laying ceremony with full military honours was organised at Tulihal Airport in Imphal, under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) on 31 July 2020. During the solemn occasion, wreaths were laid to pay homage to the fallen soldiers by N Biren Singh, the Chief Minister of Manipur,.
