BISWANATH CHARIALI: The alleged substandard work in the construction of a drainage system at Gohpur town in Biswanath district was admitted by the Chief Executive Officer of Gohpur Municipal Board.

Talking to media persons recently, H Mili, the CEO, said that show cause notices were served to the contractor and engineer concerned. Besides, one month's salary of the engineer was also held up. Admitting about the large-scale corruption and irregularities in the construction, Mili informed that the work had already stopped and the portion of drainage where work was allegedly substandard would have to be demolished and constructed again. The officer also disclosed that use of low quality cement, sand and TMT bar was detected during investigation in the work.

An amount of around Rs 50 lakh was sanctioned for the construction under 14 FC Grant, 2018-19 (Second installment) and the alleged irregularities were brought to light by the Biswanath District Committee of Scheduled Caste Students' Union.
