Massive amount of cash seized by a Static Surveillance Team in Tezpur

Tezpur: An amount of Rs. 29,70,990 was seized from a bike-rider by a Static Surveillance Team led by Joyram Hazarika during regular checking of vehicles at Tumuki near Tezpur Medical College and Hospital. The rider claimed the amount belonged to a micro-finance company and that he was on his way to deposit the amount in a bank. The amount was seized in the presence of a team of police officials led by i/c Bihaguri Out Post Nidul Gogoi.

Since the person carrying the money could not produce valid supporting documents, the money was sent to the treasury office, Tezpur after it was counted in the presence of a magistrate, I-T inspector Sanjay Das and members of the SST. The owner has been asked to produce relevant documents to claim the money back and inquiries are underway.

In another incident, an amount of Rs. 22 lakhs was detained by an SST team led by Pranjal Bordoloi from Rangamati under Bihaguri area. The amount has been claimed to be payment meant for tea garden workers of Mazbat T.E. and the garden management has been asked to produce relevant documents for claiming the money back.

Meanwhile, an amount of Rs. 1.5 lakh was reportedly seized by a Static Surveillance Team from a businessman under Rangapara LAC while another Rs.1.20 lakh was seized from one Yeshe Thinley from near Patanjali Gate at Balipara. Necessary procedures in this connection were underway at the time of filing of this report.
