Meet Porismrita, a Little Girl who Sells Vegetables to Support her Family During Lockdown

GUWAHATI:

Meet Porismrita, a girl from Numaligarh, who unlike the many contemporaries of her age, is striving to provide for her family at a time the world is facing an acute humanitarian crisis.

Porishmita belongs to an economically backward family, who are having an extremely difficult time making their ends meet during the prolonged COVID-19 induced lockdown.

In order to financially support her economically distressed family, the young girl sells vegetables.

Porismrita's father, Dignata Saikia, is a daily wage earner, and he used to be able to provide for them before the lockdown was imposed to curb the spread of the deadly infectious virus. However, the COVID-19 limitations have altered their life, as have the lives of many impoverished and vulnerable individuals. Faced with a tough position, Porismrita, a Class -V student, has resolved to assist and support her father, who has been unable to find a job.

As a result, she has been selling vegetables such as cucumber, bitter gourd, and others beside the National Highway 39 that connects Numaligarh with Nagaland via Golaghat town every day since the prohibitions came into force.

The young girl's mother died when she was an infant. Struggling against the grim reality, Porismrita continues to sell vegetables in order to purchase rice, mustard oil, and other necessities for them. She stated that her father has been unable to secure a job as a result of the state government's COVID prohibitions.

It should be mentioned that school kids are taking online lessons in accordance with the government's directives. However, due to a lack of a smartphone, this young girl was unable to attend her online lessons. Due to his poor financial situation, her father was unable to purchase a phone for his daughter.

It is important for us as a society to pay heed to the necessity of the lesser privileged sections of our society. The pandemic and everything related to it has taken a terrible toll and adversely affected the lives of countless people, but it is the economically weaker strata of our society who have been in the receiving end of the COVID-19 induced lockdown ever since its arrival.

In similar news, last year during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dibrugarh Police gave a two-wheeler to a little girl on Monday after her tale of selling vegetables on her bicycle to support her family went popular on social media. Janmoni Gogoi, a little girl from Saphakati Ghogora Gaon in the Bogibeel region of Dibrugarh district, peddled vegetables door-to-door on her bicycle to support her family, which included her elderly father.
