DOOMDOOMA: An important meeting of the district level committee formed to collect data on out-of-school children was held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office, Tinsukia on Tuesday.

The meeting, chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education) Sushant Dutta, was attended by Zila Parishad president Rajen Koiri, District Social Welfare Officer and Assistant Commissioner Niluram Sharma, Assistant Commissioner Arupa Bargohain, representatives of Health and Family Welfare, Labour Department and education officers.

A planned programme was prepared to collect data on out-of-school children aged 6 to 19 years in 2,681 wards in neighbourhoods covering all villages, tea estates and urban wards in the district. The meeting was attended by the officers of all the departments concerned and they assured that the grassroots workers of their respective departments would actively participate in the data collection process and co-operate in the smooth completion of the data collection work.

The Additional Commissioner (Education) directed the officers and employees of each department to consider field-level issues through coordination and complete the data collection within the stipulated time frame to ensure that the names of no out-of-school children were omitted.

The Additional Commissioner said that everyone should sincerely get involved in preparing a children's database for the successful implementation of such a great objective so that the children deprived of education can benefit from various welfare schemes offered by the government to achieve their basic rights. He reviewed the responsibilities and duties of the committees to be formed at zone, zone and school levels and directed to send the instructions to the field-level officers and employees of their respective departments soon.
