Tezpur: District Commissioner Ankur Bharali chaired a crucial meeting with representatives from various line departments, tea garden management, and concerned unions at the Conference Hall of the DC Office, Sonitpur.
The meeting focused on the implementation of the Plantations Labour Act, 1951, and the effective execution of welfare schemes for tea garden workers and their communities. The DC emphasized the proper implementation of the Wage Compensation Scheme for pregnant women in the tea garden community and addressed challenges hindering its success. Discussions also covered the status of TB and HIV patients in tea gardens. Key issues such as increasing enrolment in Garden Lower Primary Schools and Model Tea Garden Schools, creation of AADHAAR and ration cards, housing, sanitation, and other welfare provisions for tea garden workers were thoroughly deliberated. The timely payment of land revenue by tea gardens was also reviewed.
The meeting was attended by ADC (Revenue) Garga Mohan Das, ADC (Education) Kabita Kakati Konwar, ADC (Health) Twahir Alam, the Joint Director of Health Services, the Assistant Labour Commissioner, officials from ACMS, and representatives from other concerned departments and tea garden management in the district.
