Tezpur: The establishment of group hospitals for tea garden workers has been a long-pending demand. As an interim measure, the government has notified certain nursing homes and private hospitals to function as referral hospitals for serious cases among tea garden workers.

In this context, the Medical Inspector of Tezpur, Dr. Pradip Kumar Lahkar, convened a meeting with the garden management of Darrang district at the ALC office in Tezpur. During the meeting, Dr. Lahkar emphasized the importance of utilizing the notified hospitals and nursing homes for critical patients, noting that many garden managements were not adhering to this directive. Dr. Lahkar has been conducting similar meetings in other districts as well. Notably, garden management in Sonitpur and Biswanath districts have already started sending serious patients to the designated referral hospitals.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Lahkar urged garden managers to fully cooperate in implementing various government schemes, particularly those related to healthcare in tea gardens. He also stressed the need to prevent maternal and child deaths, eliminate home deliveries, and ensure the availability of adequate medicines, including those approved by the Medical Advisory Board, in addition to government-supplied drugs. Furthermore, the garden management requested the inclusion of their estates under the NHM PPP scheme and expressed their gratitude to the government for its support in the health sector and other areas.
