Menstrual Hygiene Day observed; sensitization programme held

LAKHIMPUR: On the occasion of the Menstrual Hygiene Day, the Department of Women and Child Development, Lakhimpur and Lakhimpur district administration, with the technical support of the District Hub for Empowerment of Women, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority and District Health Society, organized a health camp and sensitization program under ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ initiative in the Lakhimpur district. The events were organized at Padma Nath Gohain Baruah High School.

The sensitization programme was organized to highlight the importance of menstrual hygiene for the well-being and dignity of individuals who menstruate and the importance of proper menstrual hygiene practices such as using clean and safe menstrual products, maintaining personal hygiene, and managing menstrual discomfort effectively. The events were inaugurated by Sumit Sattawan, the Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur district.

In that programme, sanitary napkins, IFA and calcium tablets were distributed among the adolescent girls. Notably, this year the Menstrual Hygiene Day has been observed with a theme ‘Making menstruation a normal fact of life by 2030’. In the programme, ADC (Women and Child Development) Sulakhana Borpatra Gohain, ADC (Health) Minakshi Perme, Subdivisional Medical and Health Officer Dr Queen Baruah delivered lecture in the presence of officers and officials of Department of Women and Child Development, Education and Health Departments, National Health Mission.

On the other hand, different kinds of health services like testing of anemia, haemoglobin, growth monitoring and other medication, including mental health, psycho-social support were provided in the health camp to those adolescents, who are in need. Around 400 students including the teachers from Town HS School, North Lakhimpur Government HS School, Lakhimpur Girls’ HS School and PNGB High School participated in the programme.
