Micro-containment zones declared in Tinsukia district

TINSUKIA: With spike in COVID-positive cases in some areas of Tinsukia district — namely Hijuguri, Chaliha Nagar and Bordoloi Nagar in Tinsukia town and Digboi township — the Tinsukia district administration has declared some places under these areas as micro-containment zones to contain the spread of virus.

Official data say that 50 people tested positive in Hijuguri in the last 10 days while the corresponding figures against Chaliha Nagar, Bordoloi Nagar and Digboi are 24, 39 and 72 respectively.

During the last 10 days beginning with April 25 till May 4, as many as 878 persons tested positive in Tinsukia district, of which 668 through RAT while 210 cases by RT PCR tests.

As on Tuesday, Tinsukia district Health department registered 9,479 COVID positive cases. While 8,544 persons recovered, the number of active cases is 787.

Since the vaccination exercise begun, 69,044 persons were administered first dose while 15,510 persons were given second dose till Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the media fraternity expressed displeasure after the government denied access on the matters related to line list of COVID positive patients to media persons on Wednesday.

Though the government by doing so intended to maintain secrecy and dignity of positive patients, but the ground reality is that in many areas in Tinsukia district it has been reported that before the ASHA workers put up the 'Containment-Zone' notices, some COVID-positive persons were moving about in a carefree manner in those areas thereby posing threat to others, in the last two days. Several such cases have been reported from Doomdooma, Kakopathar, and Bordumsa as well as the tea gardens areas.
