Mid-day meal cooks and helpers stage dharna to demand pay hike

KALAIGAON: The All Assam Primary and Upper Primary School Mid-Day Meal Cook and Helper Association staged protest in front of the SDO (C) office at Bhergaon on Friday to demand hike in the monthly salary of mid-day meal cooks and helpers from Rs 1,500 to Rs 9,600.

The mid-day meal cooks and helpers are now getting Rs 1,500 as monthly honorarium. They also demanded release of pending five months' salary as well as pension and medical facilities. The activists shouted various slogans against the government. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the SDO (C) of Bhergaon subdivision on Friday regarding their various demands.

In the protest programme, Trishna Priya Nath, adviser of All Assam Primary School Mid-Day Meal and Helper Association, was present, among others. Addressing the media persons, Trisishna Priya Nath stated that the workers were being deprived from 2004 onwards of all benefits which government employees receive.
