DHEKIAJULI: Assam Health Minister Ashok Singhal launched the statewide Mass Drug Administration (MDA) campaign and National Deworming Day 2025 in Dhekiajuli today. The initiative is a part of a nationwide drive virtually inaugurated by Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda.
Speaking at PM Shri Dhekiajuli Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Minister Singhal emphasized the campaign’s role in safeguarding children’s health. He announced the free distribution of deworming tablets to children aged 1 to 19 years in government and private schools and Anganwadi centers, including to out-of-school children.
Highlighting the risks of intestinal worms due to poor sanitation, Singal urged proper hygiene and sanitation, handwashing with soap and use of clean drinking water. On filariasis elimination, he noted recent cases in Hapjan (Tinsukia), Biswanath & Behali (Biswanath), and Rangapara (Sonitpur).
The second phase of MDA runs from February 10 to 19 with ASHA and Anganwadi workers conducting door-to-door drug administration. The event was attended by Dr Laxmanan S, NHM Director, Dr Umesh Phangcho, Health Services Director, and Dyutibha Bora, Dhekiajuli Co-District Deputy Commissioner. Minister Singhal also participated in ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’, encouraging students and distributing bicycles to Class 9 students.
