SILCHAR: Minister Ashok Singhal suggested high level investigation against AIUDF MLA Karimuddin Barbhuiyan alias Saju for his alleged link with a jihadi network. Cachar's Guardian Minister, who is on a two trip to Silchar, said, there was ample evidence of Jihad activists in Barak Valley as a youth from Katigorah had recently been arrested in Bangalore in charge of having link with Al Qaeda.

The global terror outfit had already marked Assam as its target as its mouthpiece was brought out in Bengali language too. Singhal said, State government had taken stern action against the Islamic fundamental groups active in some districts of Assam and a few people of Bangladesh origin had been arrested in recent times. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had categorically mentioned that 99.99 per cent of Muslim population of the Atate were against such jihadi activities. Singhal said, instead of lauding government's step, some AIUDF MLAs like Saju were misleading Muslims. "This makes roles of AIUDF MLAs like Karimuddin and Aminul Islam more suspicious. Hence there should be high level investigation to trace whether they had any link with jihadi network", Singhal said. He however maintained that, Muslim commoners had no interest in fundamental preaching or brain washing. But jihad modules with foreign funding were trying to vitiate the minds of illiterate and poor Muslims and some AIUDF leaders were seen trying to protect such activities. Ruling out AIUDF's demand that Minister Pijush Hazarika should apologise for his jihadi remarks, Singhal said, Karimuddin or Aminul Islam had no right to dictate a Cabinet Minister. He further said, Himanta Biswa Sarma had vowed to destroy the jihad network in Assam and anybody having link with such activities would not be spared.
