NALBARI: The Nalbari District Development Committee held its monthly review meeting on Tuesday in the presence of State Panchayat and Rural Development, Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass. The meeting was attended by the heads of various departments in charge of development of the district.

The meeting was started by Deputy Commissioner Gitimani Phukan who reported on the progress of 56 issues under 23 departments and 99 issues to be taken action till May this year. Dass also reviewed the work of various important schemes under way and other overall development works under other departments in the district. He discussed in detail the problems faced in terms of quality, progress and timely execution of works under the Panchayat and Rural Development Department and tried to get the true picture of development works in the district. The minister said that he himself visited districts to take stock of the development works of the departments under his control and reviewed various issues related to them. Among the districts he visited, Nalbari was the 33rd district and the remaining districts would be covered soon. The minister tried to find out the total working days created in the district so far under MGNREGA on behalf of the Panchayat and Rural Development Department.

He asked all concerned to properly determine whether everyone had received working days against each registered job card. The minister took stock of the progress of the two schemes - Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Kecha Ghar ( PMAY-Kutcha House). Currently, out of the total number of 14,697 houses sanctioned under PMAY-G from 2016-17 to 2020-21 in Nalbari district, construction of 10,859 houses (74%) has already been completed. A total of 3,885 out of 26,013 beneficiaries of PMAY-Kutcha House scheme in the district have completed the first installment so far. The minister directed the departmental officers to complete the remaining work as soon as possible. He also warned that strict action would be taken against those responsible for irregularities in the work if the work of the Prime Minister's Housing Scheme was not completed on time.

The minister also took stock of the works under the Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department. The minister said that the number of landless families in Nalbari district was much lower than other districts and the remaining families would be given government land soon and then Nalbari district would become the first district in the State without a single landless family. He said the district administration should take necessary measures in this regard as soon as possible.

The meeting also reviewed the works being carried out under other departments for the development. Deputy Commissioner Gitimani Phukan urged the officers of each department to take serious measures to complete the schemes of the Central Government and the Government of Assam within the stipulated time frame. He also urged the heads of all departments to inform the Commissioner and District Development Commissioner about any obstacles encountered in the implementation of the schemes and to resolve the issues through discussions.
