GUWAHATI: A minor girl hailing from the Dhubri district of Assam was kidnapped by a person from Maharashtra as informed by Dhubri Police on Tuesday 18 January.

A team of Dhubri Police led by Sub Inspector Kapil Das managed to rescue the underage girl from the Palghar area Maharashtra following their rescue operation.

According to Gaurav Abhijit Dilip, the Superintendent of Police Dhubri the minor girl was cheated by the man and lured into a romantic affair before kidnapping her from Assam.

The accused person was later arrested by Assam police in cooperation with the Maharashtra police but the court granted bail to him.

It may be mentioned that this case is the fifth rescue operation by Dhubri Police conducted in places outside Assam since the gone three months.

Assam reported a huge number of cases about girls missing and being abducted under certain circumstances and most of them are found to be forced in the flesh trade prevailing across the country.

Earlier minor girls were rescued from different Indian states such as Haryana, West Bengal and Rajasthan.

In the surrounding areas especially the bordering areas of the state it is likely that an active human trafficking network in under operation for a long period.

Assam police have been making attempts to arrest those involved in such trafficking as detailed investigations are initiated to disclose the illegal activities.

Meanwhile, the Dhubri Police took to Twitter to warn the people about all those love traps that lead to illegal activities. They urged people to be vigilant on their children and not to let their innocence suffer in traffickers' dens.

The tally of trafficking has increased in the region during the prevailing covid crisis. As the report in 2019 by NCRB (National Crime Records Bureau) at least 201 such incidents were recorded in Assam which is the third-highest after Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. In the year 2020, Assam recorded 124 cases of human trafficking.
