Minor raped and murdered; one arrested in Udalguri district

TANGLA: Santosh Munda (25) was arrested in Dimakuchi of Udalguri district on charges of raping and killing a six-year-old girl child on Sunday night. The six-year-old was allegedly raped and killed by the youth at Bholatar village under Dimakuchi PS of Udalguri district along the Indo-Bhutan border. Police arrested the youth on Monday on the basis of circumstantial evidence and statements of eyewitnesses. Police booked the accused who allegedly took the girl to a nearby bush when she was out to buy goods from a shop. He then raped her and strangled her to death. He left her body in the jungle.

Bhergaon subdivisional police officer (SDPO) Nirmal Ghosh, who visited the crime scene on Tuesday, said, “We have arrested the youth and we are interrogating some other locals on the basis suspicion. We produced him in court on Tuesday.”

The incident occurred at about 6.30 pm on Sunday evening when the girl was out to buy goods for a nearby grocery store. The accused lured the child and took her to a nearby bush and perpetrated the heinous crime. The family of the victim started a frantic search for her, only to find her body in the bush. Meanwhile, a team of medical experts conducted post-mortem and handed over the body to the family members.

One of the neighbors of the child on anonymity said, “The locals suspect it to be case of gang-rape and murder as there were other youths with the accused on a fateful evening.”.
