Mising organizations demand inclusion of MAC in Sixth Schedule

LAKHIMPUR: In connection with the Demand Day of Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMK) on Tuesday, the organization, along with Mising Mimag Kebang (MMK) and Takam Mising Mime Kebang (TMMK), submitted a joint memorandum with 20 demands to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal through Arindam Baruah, the Subdivisional Officer (Civil) of Dhakuakhana subdivison.

Through the memorandum, the Mising community organizations demanded the inclusion of Mising Autonomous Council (MAC) under the provision of Article 244(2) of the Constitution of India, immediate introduction of Mising language as a medium of instruction in primary schools of the State predominantly inhabited by Mising people, declaration of State holiday on the occasion of Ali-A:ye Li:gang, replacement of 'Miri' by 'Mising', appointment of teachers in primary schools, along with 15 other crucial demands.

After submission of the memorandum, TMPK convened a press conference at Dhakuakhana Janajati Kristi Bikash Kendra maintaining social distancing in the presence of its central committee vice-president Padma Losan Doley, organizing secretary Jatin Pegu and other dignitaries of the organization.

Addressing the media persons, Padma Losan Doley and other TMPK leaders expressed their vehement resentment against the government's unmoved attitude towards implementation of the demands raised by the organizations on previous Demands Days. They alleged that the governments at the Centre and in the State had deprived the Mising community of their constitutional right. They demanded the government to implement their demands immediately. TMMK president Niru Lagasu and MMK president Dipen Doley were also present in the press conference.
