Missing Ivory Tusk Recovered, One More Held in Poaching Case

Forest department recovers 1.6-foot ivory tusk; arrests another suspect linked to the illegal wildlife trade.

DIGBOI: Following the recovery of a 1.6 feet-long missing ivory tusk by the forest department here on Monday morning, one more accomplice was arrested for his alleged involvement in chopping the wildlife property.

According to Montu Chetia, the Forest Ranger Officer Lakhipather, who had spearheaded the missing ivory-hunt operation, one more accomplice, Ankur Moran of Upper Mamorani, was arrested by the forest department on the same day.

“Ankur Moran was arrested based on investigation and sufficient evidence linked to his involvement in chopping the ivory,” asserted Chetia on Tuesday evening.

Earlier, the prime accused, Nitul Moran, of the same village was arrested by the department for his alleged involvement in electrocuting a wild elephant in his tea garden under Lakhipather range of Digboi Forest Division.
