MLA Durga Bhumij launches project to make Doomdooma clean and green

Doomdooma: In tune with the Prime Minister’s Swachha Bharat Abhiyan, local MLA Durga Bhumij formally launched his ambitious project ‘Green Doomdooma, Clean Doomdooma’ on Sunday to transform Doomdooma into a clean, pollution-free place.

A meeting was organized on the occasion at Doomdooma Sakha Sahitya Sabha Bhaban with journalist Arjun Barua in the chair. In his welcome address, MLA Durga Bhumij said that the idea took shape in his mind after visiting cities like Indore, Ujjain and Mumbai where various steps had been adopted for recycling and revenue earning which consequently gave rise to employment generation. So he proposed to launch this scheme phase-wise here with the cooperation of all concerned.

The meeting was addressed by various speakers including Ramesh Goswami, secretary of Doomdooma Senior Citizens’ Association, Dr Abdul Quadir, former Principal of Doomdooma College, journalist Dhiren Deka and various dignitaries. The speakers primarily dwelt on solid waste disposal and traffic congestion due to illegal encroachments on the roads and pavements and pollution of Doomdooma River for unabated encroachments on either side of the river banks.

Chairman of Doomdooma Municipal Board, Dulu Arandhara who was also present in the meeting, assured to cooperate and launch a vigorous drive for wayside eviction. He also said that Doomdooma Municipal Board had already taken steps for banning use of polythene in the town from August 1. The meeting resolved to form a campaign committee with chairman Dulu Arandhara as co-ordinator along with MLA Durga Bhumij and start the programme with plantation of tree saplings on August 20 in various parts of the town. It also resolved to launch an awareness campaign on cleanliness among the people.
