BOKAKHAT: The devastating floodwaters of the Dhansiri River submerged over 25 revenue villages under the Morongi revenue circle of Khumtai constituency, creating an unprecedented situation. On Sunday night, the ring embankment at Kenduguri’s wetland was also breached, worsening the disaster. With the embankment washed away, a near-apocalyptic situation emerged in areas like Karduiguri and Kenduguri of Morongi.

Amid the horrors of the flood, BJP youth leader Priyandip Kakoti of Khumtai constituency stood out with his exceptional humanitarian efforts. The dynamic and popular leader personally led a relief and rescue mission using a country boat across the flood-ravaged areas of Khumtai. A particularly moving scene was when he carried an elderly woman through the floodwaters to a safe location in his arms, drawing attention and praise from all quarters. The intense current of floodwaters cut off roads and disrupted connectivity across the region. Over 300 people took shelter in relief camps as more than 20 villages remained submerged, placing the lives and properties of residents at grave risk.

Starting early on Monday morning, Priyandip Kakoti was actively engaged in understanding the plight of flood-affected people and rescuing stranded individuals using a boat to bring them to shelter camps. His response was swift and compassionate. Notably, over 25 villages such as Yathipatia, Mithamchapori, Bholaguri in Morongi, and Barbali Top, Dusutimukh in Khumtai are submerged. The administration has already set up relief camps in various areas to provide shelter to the displaced.

In addition, Kakoti distributed flood relief materials to a total of 320 families in Kenduguri, Karduiguri, Cheschamukh, and Rongdoi entirely through his personal effort. This is not the first time that he had come to people’s aid as he had previously taken similar proactive steps during the Brahmaputra floods as well. Known for his constant presence beside people during difficult times, Kakoti has long been involved in various social development activities. Commenting on Monday’s situation, he said that witnessing the severity of the flood made it impossible for him to remain idle. Deeply concerned for the people, he immediately stepped into the field.

Many residents lost their homes and lands to the floodwaters, with vast agricultural lands submerged, severely affecting their livelihoods. At a time when the rising Dhansiri floodwaters have left people in despair, Priyandip Kakoti’s selfless humanitarian efforts have been widely appreciated by various sections of society.

Meanwhile, Khumtai MLA Mrinal Saikia and former minister Bismita Gogoi also arranged meals for flood-affected individuals at different locations separately.
