Naga Miscreants Fire Upon Assam MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi Along Assam-Nagaland Border, Spl DGP G P Singh to Investigate

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has asked Special DGP G P Singh to investigate the unprovoked firing by Naga miscreants on Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi who was on his way to Disai Valley along the Assam-Nagaland border.

Speaking to the media after the scary incident, Kurmi thanked his PSOs and the Assam Police constables for their prompt response and for saving his and other people's lives. Kurmi expressed grief that they were fired upon in their own land and requested the Chief Minister to save Assam's land.

Kurmi along with a few journalists had a narrow escape as they were caught in the middle of an intense gun battle between the Naga miscreants and Assam police constables who accompanied Kurmi and the journalists. Kurmi and his team came under sudden fire as people on the other side started firing without any provocation.

Kurmi was on his way to Disai Valley to take stock of some land encroachment on the Assam side by illegal occupants from Nagaland when he and his team came under fire.

The Assam Police and Kurmi's PSOs fired several rounds in retaliation to the firing from the Naga miscreants. They were successful in saving all the lives on the Assam side.

Kurmi and his team had to run for their lives and tried to take shelter by kneeling down and trying to hide below the hills in the area.
