GUWAHATI: Minister for Cultural Affairs for the state of Assam, Bimal Borah stated that she was chosen for the award and not the song after the controversy surrounding Nahid Afrin getting the accolade at the Assam State Film Awards in error.
The producer of the film "Nijanor Gaan" submitted an application form, in which he referenced Nahid Afrin but not the song's title, according to Borah.
It's possible that the jury members had a conversation and there was fierce competition when they were listening to all of the movie's songs. The jury, however, cannot choose the song or singer for the award unless and until the producer withdraws the nomination.
This may have been controversial as a result of human error he suggested.
"Nahid Afrin has gotten the distinction even though the name of the song was incorrectly given on the certificate," he remarked, referencing the fact that she was included in the application form.
Natun Ejaak was given the honor. She doesn't have to give the prize back. He continued, "Nahid Afrin was chosen for the honour, not the song."
The fact that Nahid Afrin received the Best Playback Singer award at the 8th State Film Awards ceremony for a song she wasn't actually in caused a significant uproar on social media and should be mentioned.
At the awards event, Nahid Afrin was given the Pratima Pandey Barua Award for Best Playback Singer (Women) for the song "Neelate Luka Bhaku" from the film Nijanor Gaan.
Rupjyoti Devi and Zubeen Garg, instead of Nahid Afrin, sang the song. As soon as the news became viral on social media, it received intense criticism from the state's cultural department.
In the meantime, the song's original performer posted a photo of Nahid receiving the honour from Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary on Facebook, along with a copy of the award's certificate.
She added screenshots from YouTube as well. "Congratulations to Nahid Afrin for winning the esteemed 8th Assam State Film Award for this song," it said in her caption.
