Locals Beat Up a Doctor, Assistants for Extortion Attempts Near Tura

SHILLONG: On March 14 at around 7 p.m., residents of Rongram, which is roughly 13 miles from Tura town, beat a doctor and his assistants for reportedly attempting to extort money from business owners close to the market.

The doctor in question, Dr Jimmy Carter N. Sangma, has a checkered past that includes alleged involvement in militant activities as well as the kidnapping and rape of a juvenile.

Both cases' current statuses are unknown. He works for the Meghalaya government despite his past. According to reports, Dr. Carter and his assistants used a machete to attack two meat vendors, and a police report has been filed at the Rongram Police Station.

This took place when he and his assistants made demands on the suppliers for payment. After striking two people, identified as Silman Sangma and Akgrimran Marak, Carter made threats against other witnesses.

According to sources, the threats made by the goons were sufficient to unite everyone. As soon as they gathered, more than 100 people attacked Carter and his goons. When the three assistants who were with Dr Carter managed to flee after being beaten, Jimmy continued to be beaten by the crowd for trying to extort them.

A Rongram police team responded after hearing about the incident and somehow managed to prevent additional harm towards Carter.

Then, enraged Rongram citizens stormed the police station and demanded Carter's immediate surrender in exchange for punishment. Carter has a well-known history of making headlines for wrong reasons.

He had previously been detained for his position as the militant organization's "Defence Secretary" when it was at its strongest. After being freed, he allegedly once again participated in the kidnapping and rape of a young girl, whom he claimed to be in love with despite being married.

According to police sources, a case has been opened, and the doctor was detained for his alleged transgression. The situation is presently being looked into. Dr Carter is seen in videos of the incident that have gone viral on social media.
