SIVASAGAR: To mark the birth anniversary of legendary mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan, the Parent Teachers' Association of Mathematics Department, Gargaon College in collaboration with IQAC, Gargaon College and Simaluguri High School organized a special programme on Thursday. The one-day programme, held at Simaluguri High School, aimed at creating an awareness among the students about the importance of mathematics and Ramanujan's contribution in the field of mathematics.
Dr Rina Handique, vice principal of Gargaon College inaugurated the programme. In her inaugural speech, Dr Handique spoke about the significance of the day throwing much light on the life of Srinavasa Ramanujan and his works and achievements. She said that Ramanujan's contribution in the field of mathematics led to resolution of many unsolved theorems. Speaking further, she stated that mathematics subject helps students to nurture their reasoning, critical thinking as well as the abilities of problem solving.
The welcome address was delivered by Tarulata Liksan, Principal of Simaluguri High School. While addressing the audience, Tarulata Liksan elaborated on the observance of the day celebrated every year on December 22 to honour the great Indian mathematician for his outstanding contributions. She also said that this day holds immense significance since it highlights the contribution of Srinivasa Ramanujan in the development of Mathematics.
Nirode Borthakur, Teacher of Simaluguri High School and Dr Kabita Phukon, Head and Assistant Professor of Mathematics Department of Gargaon College also spoke on the occasion. Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, Principal of Gargaon College appreciated the effort of the organizers for organizing such an awareness programme for the benefit of the students. The programme was attended by teachers and students of Simaluguri High School and Gargaon College. Harekrishna Mili, Assistant Professor of Department of Mathematics, Gargaon College moderated the programme.
