HAFLONG: Seeking immediate submission of compensation estimate bills (Nrimbanglo to Harangajao) and other National Highway related issues and the immediate release of financial assistance to all the displaced families whose houses were damaged due to landslides as a result of heavy rainfall, the NC Hills Indigenous Students' Forum (NCHISF) submitted a representation to Deputy Commissioner Nazreen Ahmed on Wednesday.

They stated that the Assam Government had convened a meeting under the chairmanship of Chief Minister at Janata Bhavan, Dispur. In the meeting, the Chief Minister had directed the Principal Secretary, Home & Political Department and the Special Commissioner & Secretary PWD (B&NH) to take up the compensation matter with the Principal Secretary, NC Hills Autonomous Council, for immediate submission of proposal of compensation estimates to the Regional Office NHAI for payment of necessary compensation. But, till today, even after their several pleas to the authorities concerned, no steps were taken by them during the last six months.

The NCHISF demanded submission of NH-54E compensation estimate bill to NHAI within 15 days and release of all the necessary compensation before the commencement of 4-lane balance work as agreed in the meeting; immediate release of financial assistance to all the families whose house were damaged by landslides/flood due to heavy rainfall; to fulfil their demand for constitution of monitoring committee or agreement with contractor in the presence of NHAI authorities to address the local issues and commitment from the contractor for early completion of the construction of NH-54E 4-lane balance work before the start of the construction work.

Talking to the media, David Keivom, president of NCHISF, said that if the demands are not fulfilled within 15 days, they would be bound to resort to agitation and would not allow any work on NH from Nriambanglo to Harangajao.
