
Under the dynamic leadership of the Dr. Ranbir Singh, IAS (Retd.), Chairman, Brahmaputra Board, the North Eastern Hydraulic and Allied Research Institute (NEHARI) in collaboration with National Water Academy (NWA), Pune conducted a five-day training workshop on – “Flood Management” during 20th-24th May, 2025.
The program was inaugurated virtually by Sh. D.S. Chaskar, Chief Engineer, NWA, Pune who emphasized the significance of effective flood management practices and highlighted the need for continuous capacity building among officials to achieve goals efficiently. The inauguration witnessed physical participation of eminent officials including Dr. Ranjit Deka, Director, NEHARI, Brahmaputra Board, Sh. G.L. Bansal, Chief Engineer, BBO, CWC, Sh. Asheesh Kumar Singhal, Director, NWA, Pune.
The five-day program comprised comprehensive lectures and hands-on sessions encompassing the flood management, including flood strategies and measuring technique such as Non-Structural Measures of Flood Management, Structural Measures of Flood Management & Design of Structures, Flood Forecasting Network & Formulation of flood forecast, Urban Flooding and Geo natural solutions for flood and river bank erosion. The participants were also trained in hands-on sessions using Flood Estimation by HEC- HMS. The training also addresses Flood Plain Zoning and legal aspects, Flood Management & Anti erosion work carried out by Brahmaputra Board and River Bank erosion mechanism and Management measures.
The training program concluded with a valedictory session by physical presence of Sh. Abhay Kumar, General Manager, Brahmaputra Board. Dr. Ranjit Deka, Director, NEHARI, initiated the session summarizing the 5-day training workshop. A total of 21 participants from various offices of the Brahmaputra Board and Water Resource Department of different states of NE India like Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya and West Bengal were awarded certificates of successful completion.
