New Darrang Superintendent of Police takes charge

MANGALDAI: Following the suspension of Darrang Superintendent of Police Raj Mohan Ray and Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ) Rupam Phukan on Friday, Superintendent of Police of SB (R &AC) Prasanta Saikia, an officer of Assam Police Service 1995 batch on Saturday has assumed his charge as the 27th Superintendent of Police of Darrang district. Additional Superintendent of Police (Security and Intelligence) of Nagaon district Nirupam Hazarika has also assumed his charge as the Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ) of Darrang district.

Mention may be made here that suspended Superintendent of Police Raj Mohan Ray has completed four months only in his office in Darrang district. Newly joined Additional Superintendent of Police Nirupam Hazarika earlier had rendered his service in Udalguri district as the Sub Divisional Police Officer of Bhergaon Sub Division in a critical period.

On the other hand, Deputy Inspector General of Police of Central Western Range Brajenjit Singha on Saturday afternoon attended a meeting with all the Officer in Charge of Police Stations of Darrang district at the conference hall of the SP's office. Both the newly joined Superintendent of Police and Additional Superintendent of Police also attended the meeting in presence of all the senior police officials including Deputy Superintendent of Police (HQ) Pranjal Bora.

In the meeting DIG Singha reviewed the overall situation of the district and directed all the officer to render their utmost sincere service to all section of the society to make a crime-free society and to continue the people-friendly attitude of Assam Police with an iron fist in velvet gloves. He also reviewed the preparedness of police arrangements to ensure the smooth celebration of the 75th Independence Day.
