SILCHAR: Guru Charan (GC) University would thrive to take full advantage of the New Education Policy to assist the new generation of the Barak Valley in building themselves as ‘job providers’ instead of ‘job seekers’, stated Professor Niranjan Roy who has been appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor of the newly-established state university. Prof Roy, who teaches Economics in the Assam University, has vast experience in the academic administration as he was the Registrar of the Central University. He was appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor of GC University after the college was upgraded as a state university by the Himanta Biswa Sarma government in 2022.
Meanwhile, Prof Roy in his initial statement expressed gratitude to the government for having entrusted him with the prestigious as well as challenging assignment. “GC College is one of the most reputed institutions in the entire north east region with a glorious past as well as illustrious alumni spreading all over the world. With the strength of these coupled with the scope which the New Education Policy has offered, the GC University will definitely function as a platform to build the new generation into a vibrant one”, Roy said. He further added that the Barak Valley was fortunate as it had both a central as well as state universities. He said that with his 34 years of experience in the academic field, he would try to strike a balance between the two universities so that the young generation could reap the dividend that the NEP had offered.
