TINSUKIA: Mysterious death of newly-married woman at her husband's Assam Rifles official quarter in Aizawl has created sensation in the locality. While family members alleged that the 23 Sector Assam Rifles authority showed indifferent attitude, the Mizoram police refused to accept the FIR against the husband, who the father of the deceased claimed had killed his daughter.
Seeking intervention of the Assam Chief Minister, Dhan Bahadur Chetri, father of deceased Sonia and resident of Abor Gaon Na-mile, Bishnupur Jagun, told media person at a press meet in Tinsukia on Tuesday that their daughter was married in July to Prasanta Kotuwal of Udaipur Jagun, who is a jawan of 2 Assam Rifles attached to 23 Sector of AR HQ based at Aizawl in Mizoram. Prasanta took his wife Sonia to Aizawl after 3 months and 6 days after they reached Aizawl on October 13, she was found hanging from a ceiling fan in Prasanta's official quarter.
The father alleged that his daughter was mentally tortured and denied access to the mobile phone. She was able to speak to her mother an hour before the incident and narrated her ordeals. Suspecting a well-planned murder, Dhan Bahadur Chetri alleged that the Assam Rifles authority, though permitted to him visit Prasanta's quarter, but did not allow taking any visuals, adding further that the Aizawl police did not register the case. The AR authority handed over the body with much reluctance after the post-mortem. The family members after reaching Tinsukia, performed another post-mortem and lodged an FIR against Prasanta in Lekhapani PS in the Tinsukia district. The family members demanded a high-level inquiry and urged upon the Chief Minister of Assam to bring justice to the deceased Sonia.
