
GUWAHATI: To add an extra layer of travel comfort with clean and hygienic bedrolls for passengers, Northeast Frontier Railway has launched its high-end laundry care facility in Guwahati.
The tunnel-based laundry system is designed to be equipped with modern technology for producing quality linen, in order to handle an impressive 32,000 bedrolls per day. The products include bedrolls, blankets, and pillow covers that are carefully processed so as to ensure passengers travel in comfort and hygiene.
NFR Chief Public Relations Officer, Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, said, "The new laundry care centre optimizes resources such as water, power, steam, and chemicals while handling large volumes of linen efficiently. The automated system ensures smooth transitions between cleaning stages, maintaining superior standards.
Similarly, North Western Railway (NWR) has installed a modern linen washing plant at Jaipur with a capacity of 56 tonnes in a day. Captain Shashi Kiran, Chief Public Relations Officer of NWR, said that all linens are cleaned, washed, and processed on high quality standards before being released to the passengers. Plans for facility expansion are also in progress to cater to rising demands.
Indian Railways officials again reaffirmed that all linen used in the AC sleeper classes is to be processed in mechanized laundries with the best available technology. These developments go on to show that Indian Railways is keen on cleanliness and a better travel experience for its passengers.
