DIBRUGARH: Continuing the tradition of previous years, the Dibrugarh Press Club has organized events to mark the 14th death anniversary of Late journalist Nilim Chowdhury. On August 11, a memorial lecture and the Nilim Chowdhury Memorial Journalism Award ceremony will be held at the Sankardev Auditorium of Dibrugarh Kanoi College. Additionally, the Sanjib Nandy Memorial Youth Journalism Award will also be presented on the same day.

These decisions were made during a meeting held at the Dibrugarh Press Club’s office in Lachit Nagar.

The meeting, chaired by Press Club president Manash jyoti Dutta, selected senior journalist Surya Bora of Sonari Asomiya Pratidin for the Nilim Chowdhury Memorial Journalism Award and young journalist Hiranya Bora of NKTV, Dibrugarh, for the Sanjeev Nandi Memorial Youth Journalism Award.

Both awards will include cash prizes, mementos, citations, traditional gamocha, seleng chadar, xorai, and a japi.

Furthermore, a commemorative book titled Nilim, edited by Jyotish Kumar Patir and Avik Chakraborty, will be released during the event. In addition, a journalism workshop has been scheduled for August 10.

As part of the Press Club’s golden jubilee celebrations, the workshop, organized in collaboration with Dr Radhakrishnan School of Arts, Commerce & Science, will be held at the CK Sharma Hospitality Center of Dibrugarh District Sports Association’s outdoor stadium, starting at 9 AM.

The workshop will feature prominent speakers, including Dr Satyakam Barthakur, Professor, Assamese department, Dibrugarh University, Tridip Hazarika, Chief General Manager, Oil India Limited, and Subir Bhaumik, renowned journalist and former BBC bureau chief.
