LAKHIMPUR: As per notification issued by the Pollution Control Board, Assam (PCBA), the ban on single-use plastic had come into force in Lakhimpur district too along with the rest part of the State since July 1.

The Executive Officer of the North Lakhimpur Municipal Board (NLMB) ensured the ban order across the municipal area concerned on the same day. Things that have come under the banned list are ear buds with plastic sticks, plastic sticks for balloons, plastic flags, plastic candy sticks, plastic ice cream sticks, thermocol for decoration, etc. On the other hand, banned plastics with less than 100 microns in thickness are plates, cups, glasses, forks, spoons, straws, trays, wrapping or packaging films around sweet boxes, invitation cards and cigarette packets and single-use carry bags with thickness less than 75 microns.

The NLMB has once again appealed to the commercial institutions and the public not to use plastic cup, plate, glass, plastic flex, plastic stick, ice cream sticks, thermocol with thickness less than 75 microns and PVC banner with thickness less than 100 microns. In this connection, the Executive Officer of the NLMB once again issued a notification on Wednesday. Any violation of this regulation will attract penalty under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 and Plastic Waste Management (Amendment) Rules, 2021, including seizure of goods, levying of environmental compensation and closure of the operation, as deemed fit.
