TEZPUR: After Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma's instruction to take steps to reduce road accidents in the State, the district administration of Sonitpur has enforced a 'no helmet, no petrol' rule for two-wheeler riders. District Transport Officer and other officials in Tezpur carried out a drive at several petrol pumps in the town to ensure enforcement of road safety rules by the petrol pump owners. The officials debarred the pumps from providing petrol to the riders without helmets.

Niren Sharma, District Transport Officer (DTO) said that the main motto is to save lives. This initiative had been taken as part of creating awareness about wearing helmets among two-wheeler riders and motorists in the city to reduce fatalities. The petrol pump retailers have been directed to display a signage stating 'no helmet, no petrol' and the same should be clearly visible.
