GOLAGHAT: The Election Commission of India has, vide order No.464/INST/2021/EPS dated 27/04/2021, issued stringent directions in connection with counting of votes for general election to the Legislative Assemblies on May 2 in view of the surge in COVID-19 cases throughout the country.

There is a sudden rise in active COVID-19 cases in Golaghat district, where the total number of active COVID-19 cases in the district has risen to more than 360. Therefore, to effectively contain the further spread of the virus, Roktim Boruah, Additional District Magistrate, Golaghat, on Tuesday, in exercise of the powers conferred under section 144 Cr. PC, hereby ordered that no victory procession, after the counting on May 2, will be permissible. Not more than two persons will be allowed to accompany the winning candidate or his/her representative to receive the certificate of election from the Returning Officer concerned.

This order has been passed ex-parte in view of emergent nature of the situation. This order shall come into force on May 2 and shall remain in force until further orders. Violation of this order shall invite action U/S188 I. P. C and other relevant laws thereof.
