Northeastern Leaders Congratulate Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma- The New Chief Minister of Assam

GUWAHATI: As Assam witnessed the announcement of the 15th chief minister of the state, congratulatory messages poured in from all walks of life especially from the northeastern leaders of the seven states for the NEDA conveyor and Assam State Health and Finance Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma wrote, "My heartiest congratulations to my elder brother @himantabiswa ji on being unanimously elected as legislative party leader of BJP in Assam and Chief Minister of Assam. My best wishes and prayers for all his future endeavours."

While Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh wrote, "Heartiest Congratulations to @himantabiswa Da on being elected as leader of @BJP4Assam legislature party. With your dedication throughout the years & guidance of Hon'ble PM @narendramodi Ji, Assam is heading towards a new era of development under your leadership as Chief Minister."

On the other hand, Arunachal CM, Pema Khandu wrote, "Congrats to Shri @himantabiswa Ji on being elected as legislature leader of @BJP4Assam. Himanta Ji has time again displayed his excellent leadership, be it in fighting #covid or in development matters. We are sure under his leadership, Assam will strive to much greater heights."

Tripura CM wrote, "Extend heartiest greetings to our beloved @himantabiswaDa on being elected as leader of @BJP4India Legislative Party in #Assam. With visionary guidance from PM Shri @narendramodiji, the development of Assam will further accelerate under leadership of Sh. #HimantaBiswaSarma ji."

Meanwhile, BJP alliance AGP also gave the consent of support for Himanta Biswa Sarma as the new Chief Minister of Assam, while the UPPL party led by Promod Boro is yet to officially meet and give formal support.

Now few more formalities are to be completed before the official announcement is made naming Himanta Biswa Sarma as Assam's next CM.

Sarma has won the Jalukbari seat 5 times (2001, 2006, 2011, 2016 & 2021), lost just once in 1996. A former Congress politician, Sarma has served as the Cabinet Minister in all the 3 terms of the Tarun Gogoi-led Congress Government. He joined BJP in 2015 due to differences with the then CM Tarun Gogoi.

BJP's observers Tomar, Arun Singh, B L Santosh, and Baijayant Panda along with Assam MPs Pallab Lochan Das, Dilip Saikia were present at the legislature party meeting.

Tomar was among the first to felicitate Sarma with the traditional Assamese gamocha followed by outgoing CM Sarbananda Sonowal who patted Sarma on the back after garlanding him with the gamocha. Sonowal's pat seemed like an elder brother's pat full of love and support for the younger brother.
