GAURISAGAR: A smriti charan sabha was organized to remember noted educationist, social worker, and cultural activist Nripen Hazarika. Tuwaram Khanikar, noted educationist and former Professor of SMD College, Charing, unveiled the memento 'Sarapator Subhas,' edited by journalist Rajib Dutta and published on the adyasharddhya of Nripen Hazarika who passed away on June 30.

Khanikar said on the occasion, "There is a man behind a smaranika. There is a civilization and a culture with this man. If this smaranik, i.e. the person, is tarnished, the civilization and culture behind the person will be tarnished. Preserving it will preserve the civilization and culture of the man behind it. To preserve this civilization and culture, this smaranika must be preserved."

Addressing the gathering in the smriti charan sabha held on Thursday, noted orator Tuwaram Khanikar said that a memento would carry a person's history, happiness, sorrow, and struggles of life.

The event was anchored by educationist and noted writer Prasanta Kumar Neog and journalist Rajib Dutta. Dhrubeswar Nath, Dilip Kumar Neog, former principals of Gaurisagar HS Industrial Institute, Muhi Kanta Nath, founder Principal of Gaurisagar Junior College, Dr Soneswar Borah, Tarun Gogoi, former secretaries, Gaurisagar Jestha Nagarik Mancha, and Thanu Bharali, Secretary, Gaurisagar Jestha Nagarik Mancha, took part as distinguished guests and spoke on the life and work of Nripen Hazarika.

His colleagues, cultural activist Bhula Kakoty, former Vice-Principal Binod Borah, and present Vice-Principal of Gaurisagar HS Sonaram Bhagawati tearfully recollected the days passed with Nripen Hazarika.

On behalf of Nripen Hazarika's family, Dr Jibon Kalita, Associate Professor of Nazira College and Vice-President of Sivasagar Zilla Xahitya Xabha, narrated the life, work, and contributions of Nripen Hazarika towards society. He expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to those present for making the smriti charan sabha a successful one.
