GAURISAGAR: A smriti charan sabha, on the eve of the adyashraddha of Jayant Kumar Chutia, former secretary of Namti Press Club, a prominent writer of Assamese prose literature, poet, essayist, an uncompromising senior journalist and teacher, was held under the aegis of Namti Press Club on Friday. Chutia passed away on May 27 at a private hospital in Dibrugarh.

The meeting was chaired by Ratul Sarma, President of the press club. The programme started with lighting of lamps before the portrait of Jayanta Kumar Chutia by Tarun Chandra Nath, retired teacher and poet. The meeting was anchored by Jiyaruddin Ahmed while Santanu Dutta, noted Story Writer and Teacher, unveiled Anubhabi Samaloy, a patrika published on the occasion.

In the smriti charan sabha, Associate Professor of Sibsagar Girls College Dr Probin Sarma, ATASU Sivasagar District Committee President Akhil Ahom, AASU Central Executive Dhrubajyoti Kalita, retired teacher Hasan Ali, Lachit Phukan of Bihu Surakshya Samiti, writer Saurav Neog, and others spoke about the life and works of Jayanta Kumar Chutia and his contributions towards the fields of literature, journalism, and social development.

Dharmaranjan Gogoi, President, Neelaxi Memorial Academy, Amguri, Devajani Saikia Gogoi, Assistant General Secretary of Sivasagar Zilla Xahitya Xabha, Rebika Hondique, newly-elected Morabazar ZP member, Joyjyoti Gogoi, President, E-media Association, Sivasagar, Rajkumar Konseng, President, Kaloogaon Press Club, Achinta Borthakur, General Secretary (i/c), Kaloogaon Press Club, Photo Journalist Munna Agarwalla, Sanjoy Gogoi, former president, Namti Press Club, and others were present.
