Lakhimpur Witnesses Surge in COVID-19 Cases, 159 Fresh Patients Detected

LAKHIMPUR: COVID Cases in Lakhimpur: The number of COVID-19 cases has surged at an alarming rate once again in Lakhimpur district. On Monday, a total of 159 fresh cases were detected in the district as per the result of Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RTPCR) Test. Out of them, 132 people of the district were found to be positive for COVID-19 as per RAT while 27 cases were detected as per RTPCR Test result, reported from Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), Dibrugarh.

This figure is the highest figure regarding the detection of novel coronavirus infected people in the district during the second wave of the contagion since April 1 of the current year till date. Prior to it, a total of 134 COVID-19 cases were detected on May 10 while 117 patients were detected on May 7 and 113 people were found positive on May 8.

On Monday, a total of 2,645 people underwent the RAT conducted by the District Health Department in eight COVID-19 Test Centres across the district, including North Lakhimpur Urban Hospital, Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital Respiratory Clinic and other six Block Primary Health Centres (BPHCs). Out of them, the detected cases were reported from North Lakhimpur Urban Hospital (8), Dhalpur BPHC (20), Bihpuriya BPHC (15), Naoboicha BPHC (13), Boginadi BPHC (43), Ghilamora BPHC (13), Dhakuakhana BPHC (3) and Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital Respiratory Clinic (17). On this day, the Health Department of the district registered 81 per cent achievement in conducting the RAT in order to detect COVID-19 patients out of the targeted figure 3,430.

With these fresh patients, the cumulative total of COVID-19 cases of the district has surged to 10,626 since April 4 of the last year. Out of them, 9,342 recovered patients have been discharged from hospitals and home quarantine while there are 1,205 active cases in the district at present. On Monday, 16 recovered patients were discharged from institutional isolation while 128 recovered patients were discharged from home isolation. A total of 2,590 people of the district tested positive for COVID-19 during the second wave of the contagion since April 1 of the current year. Out of them, 29 people succumbed to the pandemic raising the overall tally of the COVID-19 fatalities of the district up to 78.
