NUMALIGARH: A sudden fire broke out today around 2 PM in the Tarani area of Karani Hola, under the jurisdiction of Komargaon Police Station in the Bokakhat subdivision. The fire caused severe destruction. For a long time, various migratory birds, including herons, had taken refuge in the peatlands of Karani Hola’s Tarani. Due to the availability of prey, pythons and other snakes also found shelter in the area. Unfortunately, the fire led to the deaths of numerous birds, their hatchlings, and many snakes.

The presence of peat made it difficult to control the fire. However, local residents, police personnel, and the fire brigade worked together to bring it under control. Several shops were saved due to the efforts of the community. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, though some people had been cutting trees in the area earlier in the afternoon. Notably, local residents of Karani Hola had refrained from harming the birds. Recently, several pythons were rescued from this region, and even a bear had once taken shelter in Karani Hola.
