NUMALIGARH: A tragic incident occurred last evening in Budhe Chapori under the Numaligarh Forest Beat Office in Bokakhat, where a man lost his life in a tiger attack. The victim has been identified as Gopinath Mili, a resident of Selek Village under Dergaon Police Station.

As per reports, like any other day, Gopinath Mili had gone to Budhe Chapori to herd his cattle when a massive tiger suddenly attacked him. Despite his desperate screams for help, the tiger dragged him deep into the forest. Hearing his cries, local residents rushed to the spot, only to find blood stains, pieces of his clothing, sandals, and drag marks indicating that the tiger had pulled him into the dense forest. Upon receiving the information, a 15-member team of forest officials, led by the Golaghat Range Officer and the Numaligarh Forest Beat Officer, arrived at the scene at night. They later recovered Mili’s body from an open area in the dense forest. This morning, in the presence of a magistrate, Dergaon Police sent the body for a post-mortem examination at the Shaheed Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital in Golaghat. Notably, the lower part of the victim’s body was missing, indicating the severity of the attack. The tragic incident has left the victim’s family devastated, while locals have raised concerns over increasing human-wildlife conflicts in the region.
