DHUBRI: 'Catch The Rain Where It Falls, When It Falls' campaign was launched by Dhubri NYK (Nehru Yuva Kendra) at a meeting held in the office premises of World Vision here recently.

Assistant Executive Engineer of Dhubri Municipal Board, Abdul Jalil Sheikh, while addressing the village-level activists and volunteers of NYK as resource person, said that rain harvesting method and its related matters were so easy that it could be finished in five minutes but its implementation was important to create an impact which would benefit mankind and the environment as a whole for centuries to come.

"It is a fact that presently there is no urgency for Assam to go for immediate action to harvest rain water as there is hardly any crisis of water, but alarm bells have started ringing in certain areas. So we should be alert before facing a situation like Maharashtra, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Bihar, where ground water level is getting low every passing year. In order to preserve and increase the ground water table, we need to act from now," Sheikh pointed out.

Dhubri Additional Deputy Commissioner Safraz Haque inaugurated the rain water harvesting campaign and in his inaugural speech, he called upon the NYK volunteers to create awareness dedicatedly among the villagers on the need for harvesting rain water.
