
Ajanta Mahanta Saikia, a retired Assistant Engineer of Public Works Department, Government of Assam, breathed her last at her residence in Nagaon a couple of days back. She was 64 years old.
Several organizations and institutions, including the Nagaon District Committee of the Sadou Asom Kalita Alpine Janajati Sammilan, have expressed their deep condolences on her demise.
Ajanta Mahanta Saikia was a social worker who served as a Junior Engineer and Assistant Engineer in various parts of the state. She was the first woman polytechnic diploma holder engineer in Assam and was known for her social work.
The president and general secretary of the Nagaon District Committee of the Sadou Asom Kalita Alpine Janajati Sammilan, Dr Thanu Ram Hazarika and Samir Hazarika, respectively, have expressed their condolences and described her as a socially conscious woman. She leaves behind her retired engineer husband, Basanta Saikia, a son, and a host of relatives.
