
Noted educationist, litterateur, poet and drama activist, octogenarian Abhoy Boruah breathed his last at his Fulaguri residence on January 18 due to old-age ailments. He was 85. He was suffering from dementia for over a couple of years. He was the father of differently-abled budding Assamese litterateur Sharmistha Pritam and was the founder president of Asom Kobi Sanmilan.
Born on October 21, 1937 Boruah started his career as a school teacher and was dedicatedly involved in literary works as well as dramatic work since his childhood. Besides, he also engaged himself in various socio-cultural activities till his death and was also a motivational speaker. He rendered services towards the society as a sensitive as well as responsible scribe for over years.
He leaves behind his ailing daughter and noted Assamese litterateur Sharmistha Pritam, a son and a host of relatives. Various organizations, including AASU, AJYCP, AAJU, Asom Kobi Sanmilan, Nagaon Zila Sahitya Sabha and MLA Rupak Sarma, Sashi Kanta Das and other dignitaries condoled his demise and also paid tribute to him.
