Gunoda Saikia

Gunoda Saikia, senior educationist and retired Principal of Morongi DN High School, passed away on January 11 at her residence at Telia gaon. She was suffering from prolonged illness. She was 88 and was serving as Establishing Principal of Morongi Sishu Bhawan till her death.

She was also closely engaged with many social activities and also led many social organizations of the Morongi area. She retired as Principal from Morongi DN High School in 1994 and established Morongi Sishu Bhawan in 1996. Organizations like Morongi Press Club, Morongi Xahitya Xabha, local colleges and schools have mourned the loss of the senior educationist.

Jamila Khatun

Jamila Khatun, a pious lady and wife of Charif Ali, an inhabitant of Shastrapara village near Tangla town in Udalguri district, passed away due to old-age illness at her residence at about 8.30 am on January 9. She was 106. A soft-spoken lady, she was loved and admired by all for her amicable disposition. She leaves behind three sons and two daughters along with a number of grandchildren and a host of relatives and well-wishers. Large number of people cutting across caste and religion thronged to pay their last respects to Jamila Khatun and attended her janaza prayers at Banseria Jame Masjid Kabarastan.
