OBITUARY: Romen Dowerah

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Romen Dowerah—a visionary businessman, dedicated philanthropist, and acclaimed sportsman. For 20 years, he served with distinction as the Mouzadar of Moran, overseeing Moran town and 76 surrounding villages with unwavering dedication. A former Santosh Trophy player who represented Assam at the state level in football, he exemplified resilience and leadership.

Beyond the football field, he famously walked from Dibrugarh to Guwahati to promote health awareness among the masses. A committed servant of society, he was actively associated with the Rotary Club of Dibrugarh, served as a Life Member of the Indian Red Cross Society, and was a driving force behind the Moran Social Welfare and Masters Athletic Association, among numerous other civic organisations.

Last rites were attended and tributes were paid by prominent organisations, including the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), and Assam Jatiya Yuva Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP). Tributes and condolences were also conveyed over phone calls by Union Cabinet Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Member of Parliament Shri Jogen Mohan, and several ministers of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, including Assam Cabinet Minister and Tingkhong MLA Shri Bimal Borah.

Heartfelt tributes were offered in person and through messages by National Film Award winner Shri Bishnu Kharghoriya, senior journalist Shobhit Kr. Chetri, former ULFA C-in-C Sakra Gohain, Assam Football Association Assistant Secretary Shri Sanjeev Baruah, film producer O.P. Garodiya, and Rotary Club of Dibrugarh members Dr. Kalpana Khound, Dr. Kalyan Khound, and Shri Prahlad Todi, along with numerous other dignitaries, well-wishers, and members of the public. He is deeply mourned by his wife, Dipanjali Dowerah, and his sons, Yankee Dowerah and Jeremy Dowerah, as well as his loving family, friends, and well-wishers.
