GOLAGHAT: The activists of Oikya Sena Asom (OSA) Golaghat district unit staged a two-hour sit-in near the Deputy Commissioner’s office of Golaghat on Thursday against the BJP-led Central Government for taking the decision to pass the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB), 2016.

The protesters raised various slogans against the Narendra Modi-led BJP government as well as the Sarbananda Sonowal-led State Government for taking an anti-Assam policy to settle illegal migrants in the State through CAB.

Addressing the protesters, OSA chief secretary of Golaghat district committee, Toufik Ahmed strong criticized the BJP government for again trying to bring the controversial bill to Assam despite several massive protests by various sections of the people of Assam. He said that OSA strongly opposed and warned the BJP government not to think of settling the illegal migrants in Assam through this citizenship amendment bill. The illegal migrants should be deported on the basis of the Assam Accord, he said.

“The burden of illegal migrants will never be accepted,” he added. The OSA strongly warned the BJP governments at the Centre and State to forget about bringing CAB, 2016 to Assam or their stir would intensify.
