Oldest artisan of Demow Mani Paul makes 40 Saraswati idols
Mani Paul, a resident of Demow Dehajan and owner of Rongpur Silpalay in Demow Dehajan, along with his three staff, has been preparing Saraswati idols.

DEMOW: Mani Paul, a resident of Demow Dehajan and owner of Rongpur Silpalay in Demow Dehajan, along with his three staff, has been preparing Saraswati idols.
Mani Paul said he has been making idols for the last 48 years. Mani Paul is the oldest artisan in the Demow area. Talking to The Sentinel on Wednesday evening, Mani Paul said that with his staff he has been making Goddess Saraswati idols for the last one-and-half months. He said Saraswati idols were taken to Rajabari, Bam Rajabari, Nitaipukhuri, Demow, Dehajan, Thowra, Athabari, Chetia Gaon, Rajmai along with various other places.
The price of the big Saraswati idol is Rs7,000 while small idols are available for Rs.5000, Rs.3000 and Rs.1500. The sale of Saraswati idols this year is less compared to previous years as Saraswati Puja will be celebrated on January 26, which is also Republic Day. This year he has made 40 idols, as compared to 60-70 in the previous years on Saraswati Puja.
