SILCHAR: Call it adventurous or daring, Rajan Das, a young man of 21 years from a village of Patharkandi in Barak Valley, has set out on a tour on bicycle across the country to spread the message of unity and call upon the people of mainland to know northeast and appreciate its varied culture and tradition. His other mission is to include one exclusive chapter on northeast in the syllabus of NCERT which will bring into focus the region more sharply before the students.

With that objective, being a brilliant student of NIT Silchar, he will speak to students in groups as the schools now plan to reopen after long spell of COVID-19 pandemic. And this has been the prime motivating force behind his long and hazardous journey through high and dry lands, hills and plains. His bold and mighty spirit and desire to do something different has taken him to explore new horizons.

According to his family source, Rajan Das now on his 26 days of ride is in Bihar, full of excitement to meet people and interact with them. His message from Barak to Ladakh and Kashmir to Kanyakumari is "know northeast in its true essence" which is the epitome of the great country. For Rajan, his is not a pleasure trip or odyssey for picnic. He will be the first from Barak to cycle to Leh and Ladakh.

Rajan is not fortunate to get any sponsor. But, people of all hues everywhere he passes through are coming forward to provide him food, and all other needs. This is a great feeling of oneness. Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, tribal brethren –all have opened their hearts for him. This has given confidence to Rajan he will get a sponsor and complete his voyage, gaining new experiences.
