One arrested for rape in Jamugurihat

JAMUGURIHAT: Mehbur Ali, one of the prime accused of a gang rape was arrested by a team of Sootea Police on Monday from Katarati village. It is to be mentioned here that Mehbur and another person raped a minor girl of Buduati village on the southern part of Sootea on January 27. The two rapists tried to hide the incident of gang rape by threatening the poor family members of the girl child. But the incident was brought to light with the help of a local ASHA worker and other women. Accordingly, the mother of the raped child was brought to Sootea Police Station and lodged an FIR on February 4. After interrogation and the medical examination of the victim girl, the police team conducted the search operation against the two accused. Similarly, Mehbur was apprehended from the Katarati village on Monday. Another one was yet to be brought behind the bar. Shyamal Jyoti Saikia, the officer in-charge of Sootea PS informed that the accused Mehbur is the husband of three wives. Organizations and individuals of the greater Sootea area demanded exemplary punishment for the culprits and demanded justice for the victim minor girl.
