One killed in jumbo attack at Nagrijuli in Baksa district

BAKSA: A person was killed in a jumbo attack at Nagrijuli along the Indo-Bhutan Border in Baksa on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Mangal Kisku of Rampur Supa of village No 1 Dongargaon under Baksa district. In search of food, a herd of wild elephants came down from Bhutan hills and was moving along No 1 Dongargaon for the last few days. On Sunday morning at around 6.00 am, the victim - Mangal Kisku was attacked by an elephant which was isolated from the herd and as a result he died on the spot.

Some local people saw the incident and informed other villagers. Later on, the villagers informed the Kumarikata Forest Range and Nagrijuli Police Outpost.

Receiving the information, a team from Nagrijuli Police Outpost and a team of forest officials rushed to the spot and recovered the body. The body was send for postmortem to Mushalpur. On the other hand, another herd of wild elephants entered Bagrikhuti village. An isolated wild elephant from the herd entered the premises of Khamdajan Lower Primary School and broke down the wall of the kitchen. The wild elephant also broke down the utensils of the school.

It is worth mentioning that wild elephants and human conflicts have turned into a burning problem along the Indo-Bhutan border for the last few years. Locals have complained that no concrete action has been taken to control the encounters by the government and Forest department.
